The Shack

Music from and inspired by the original motion picture

Released to coincide with blockbuster Christian film The Shack, based on the book by Wm. Paul Young, the movie’s soundtrack is a melancholy yet beautiful accompaniment to the evocative story.

Fans of country and Americana will be drawn to the soundtrack immediately, with artists like Dan + Shay, Lady Antebellum and Dierks Bentley featuring heavily. In particular, the duet Keep Your Eyes On Me by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will draw you into the film’s compelling narrative.

While McGraw does act in the film, the fact the couple penned the duet after watching an early cut of the story makes it all the more authentic and ethereal.

Careful not to stay in the country lane, the soundtrack does explore more diverse genres with the inclusion of Hillsong UNITED’s gorgeous ballad Only Heaven Knows, rapper Lecrae on the track River of Jordan and alt-rock band Skillet with Stars.

Kelly Clarkson’s soulful vocals lift the soundtrack, and the collaboration by NEEDTOBREATHE and Lauren Daigle bridges the divide between the CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) genre and the top 40.

A movie soundtrack is by-and-by in the industry, but what makes The Shack’s so rich in material is the hard-hitters featured on each song. With multiple Grammy-award winners and nominees, chart-topping artists as well as some of the Christian music industry’s best and brightest, this is a collection of well written and compelling tunes.

Communicating the message that God meets us in our pain and brings healing, there are very few parts of this soundtrack that feel cliché and worn thin. From start to finish, this is well worth your time.

The Shack: Music from and inspired by the motion picture is available on iTunes for $16.99.
